Eirigh san Earrach: a prayer collective to support our spring cleaning throughout the period of Lent
Rise in the Spring, éirigh as san Earrach; 'give it up' in the Spring.
As we emerge from the hibernation, our bodies call for cleanse. Lent begins on new moon, as Venus appears in the night sky.
Comhludar an Charghas (a Company of Lent) is a journey in the company of fellow disciples (both láidir and lag), our spring plant allies and our ancient mother mantra the Choróin Mhuire, the rosary.
It represents a unification of two of the greatest tools in my evolution process; plant spirit medicine and the rosary.
Our two hour calls will consist of an introduction/teaching to the week's practice, a meditation/transmission with the plant, a recitation of the rosary, which gives the anchor and structure to our mining of this current mystery and a sharing circle.
Plant Spirit Medicine
We will spend a week with Cleavers, Nettle and Dandelion in a ritual purification of the various waters of our bodies. We will make both water infusions and decoctions and include them in our weekly diet. This is a gentle medicine and it can accompany another cleanse you are doing or stand alone. The triple mysteries of the Choróin Mhuire Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious will provide the vessel in which our infusions and decoctions of cleavers, nettle and dandelion respectively will sit, With cleavers ruled by venus and the inner waters, nettle of blood and boundaries and glorious Dandelion of warriorship of liver and bile.
The Choróin Mhuire: Not the rosary ‘as a pillar of the church’ but a rosary much much older. A mantra passed down orally before it was first written in Medieval times. A mantra of devotion to the Mother of God, the Womb of Creation, the Immaculate Conception, She of thousand names, who has appeared on earth throughout the ages. A triskeling mantra of birth, death and renewal that flows through the mionscéal and mórscéal of this tír. A prayer recited and recorded in the waters of the holy wells, the springs that feed all the rivers of Ireland. A mantra that joins with the sap of Hawthorn, Rowan and Apple and following the wild rose way. A way to pray with our ancestors....
Comhludar an Charghais is part of a reclamation of the Marian lineage in Ireland to its pre-Catholic roots. We understand it as a ancient land based tradition concerned with the preservation of the country's sacred water and memory.
